Trust in the Lord

Psalm 91

In these uncertain times, many are finding their lives turned upside down. Children are home when they should be in school. Work lives are disrupted as many business’s close. Some places are put on lock down and many are self quarantining. Social distancing is now a word commonly used.

So how do we respond?

Fear and anxiety is a natural response to situations out of our control.

I tell my children all the time that while we cannot control the situation, we can control the WAY we respond.

The Word of God helps to ground my heart and keep me focused on what I need to do today rather than fear what will happen tomorrow. As Jesus said to His disciples,

“ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:34

  • We can CHOOSE to focus on today rather than worry about tomorrow.

  • To be informed about what is happening but not STAY there.

  • To continue to do the things we need to stay healthy and consider how to help others.

  • To encourage one another through text, social media, small groups, and phone calls.

  • To study God’s Word instead of watching the news.

  • To do good.

  • To share what we have with others.

We are called to serve and we are to be representatives of Him in this world; to be a light in the darkness. Right now, we have an opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ through our actions and words. So take some time to think about what this looks like in your life. It will look different for everyone but there is a way to encourage, love, and serve others right where you are.

In the meantime, find comfort through Psalm 91 and spend some time meditating on these words. Pray each verse over your family, friends, and home.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.””
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:1-16‬ ‭

Praying God’s Word is powerful and sharing God’s Word with others brings hope and peace. 2 Thessalonians 2:14

Let’s consider how to spur one another on and lift each other up in these days ahead.

Set your mind on things above!!!! Colossians 3:2

And don’t let your heart become discouraged. Joshua 10:25

God has good things for you and your life… Jeremiah 29:11

This is just temporary so focus on what is eternal and we will all finish the race (2 Timothy 4:7) and when we cross the finish line, we will hear these words from our Father in Heaven, “Well done good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
